GFM USA - Clarkston, Atlanta, GA, USA
How would you like to walk out of your front door and see people from Bhutan, Burma, Nepal, Iraq, and Sudan? That is exactly what happens for our Global Frontier Missions staff every day as they minister in the Clarkston area of Atlanta, GA and why it is the perfect location for hosting short-term mission trips and providing missionary training.
In the past 10 years over one million people have immigrated to Atlanta from all over the world. TIME magazine called Clarkston the most diverse square mile in America and it has also been written about in best selling books like What is the What and Outcasts United: An American Town, a Refugee Team, and One Woman's Quest to Make a Difference. Atlanta is a perfect mission field to minister to the nations that are coming to us and also a great place to receive missionary training before going to serve overseas. There is a significant population of Asian Indians, Muslims, Africans, Chinese, and Hispanics for missionaries that feel called to minister to those people groups.
When reading the story of the early church in Acts, we see that the Gospel spread quickly from Jerusalem to many Gentile nations because it was a city where people from all over the world gathered. Atlanta is one of the main "Jerusalems" in the southeastern USA due to it being a cultural, economic, and religious crossroads especially since the 1996 Olympic Games. People (immigrants, refugees, international students) from many different countries (145) and ethnic groups (761) live in Clarkston and NE Atlanta including Bosnians, Cambodians, Iranians, Somalis, Burmese, Bhutanese, Sudanese, Laotians, Indonesians, etc. It's an amazing opportunity to present the gospel to those that have never even heard the name of Christ!
GFM Atlanta is involved with picking refugees up from the airport, helping them learn English, providing job training, assisting them in putting together resumes to find jobs, running afterschool programs, leading summer camps, making disciples, and planting churches. God commands us to reach out to orphans, widows, and foreigners, so we must get involved out of compassion and obedience. Our biggest need in Clarkston is more laborers, so consider joining us for a short missions experience or a longer term commitment!
Our goal is to help churches get excited and strategic about reaching out to internationals living close to them and seeing as many people as possible getting involved in praying, giving, and going to the unreached people groups of the earth. We are working closely with other churches and organizations in Atlanta such as Whirlwind Missions, Friends of Refugees, Cross-Cultural Ministries, World Relief, and Open Table Community.
Global Frontier Missions in Atlanta hosts Short Term Missions Trips throughout the year, Summer Missionary Internships, two Missionary Training Schools, and a Missionary Apprenticeship each year. For more information on any of these missions opportunities, please contact us or if you live in the Atlanta area, please let us know so we can get you involved!
