Here’s what people are saying about the GFM missionary training school (MTS):
I had heard that living on the front-lines was the most spiritually challenging place to be. It was true. Satan is continually clawing at our heels, wanting to tear apart teams and our identity in Christ. Global Frontier Missions: Missionary Training School helped equip me to not only to fight harder on the field, but to stand stronger as a faith-filled follower of Jesus in the context of team and community life.
– Jeromy M, 28, currently serving among Nepalis
I really cannot thank God enough for leading me to GFM and MTS. The experience was life-changing. The combination of academic and Biblical knowledge with personal heart knowledge of God and practical experience amongst the refugees was invaluable. I really appreciated GFM’s humility and heart to continually point people to Jesus. I would recommend MTS for anyone seriously considering long-term missions or cross-cultural service.
– Kristen Y, 27, nurse heading to South Asia
It was one of the best experiences of my life. I grew in my relationship with the Lord so much during that time and learned how I needed to lean on Him for everything. I learned something every day from the readings and the field experience, both about others and about myself.
– Jolynne M, 52, serving in Mexico
Being an older adult with children out of the house, Global Frontier Missions offers its program to any age. It gave my husband and me the opportunity to see and experience a lifetime dream and a fulfillment of being missionaries in a cross cultural context.
– Cheri M, 57, doing children’s ministry and pastoral care
What’s the value of MTS for a career missionary who’s had almost four decades of overseas’ experience? Quite a lot, actually! It felt good to be back in the classroom, stretching my brain around contemporary missions’ thinking. The curriculum varied widely enough to allow a full range of information: biblical foundations of missions and word studies, divergent views on mission methods and process, introductions to the mindset of a younger set of pastoral, business, and missions’ thinkers. Discussions were stimulating and provocative. The required reading was excellent, highlighting books that I would not have normally pulled off a shelf. I came away from MTS with a desire to know God better, to take time with the Lord in solitude, to listen for and wait on Him, to pursue His work in His way only. Additionally, as a group, MTS gave us the necessary opportunity to interact as a team, grow and learn and pray together, and brainstorm ideas about the future ministry of GFM Richmond. I’m ready to get going!
– Sue H, 39 years of missions experience in Africa
I highly recommend MTS to anyone who is seriously considering going into missions! This course is jam-packed with practical, Biblically sound material on sharing God’s truth with ALL nations. Not only do you learn missions methodology, you get to be surrounded by an awesome group of people who share the same heart for missions and walk together with them as you grow deeper in your relationship with Christ and do ministry!
– Erica S, 24, currently serving in Haiti
Even after decades of service in West Africa, I found the missionary training school courses a refresher for my spiritual life and an update to contemporary missional thinking focused on Church Planting Movements among Unreached People Groups. My passion for ministry, love for God and dependence on prayer were challenged and stimulated to greater depths of spiritual growth.
– Terry H, 64, veteran missionary and Richmond MTS student
The Holy Spirit used MTS in our lives to bring transformation, heal deep hurts, experience church like never before (unity, discipline, priesthood of all believers, giftings), and connected us to the heart of God. MTS broke though the cultural lenses we wear to, contextually and in love, invite all peoples to follow Jesus!
– Derek M, 35, currently serving in Indonesia
I think MTS shed light on many aspects of my Christian faith. I came expecting to be trained as Church Planter and left with a drastically different life perspective. I am so thankful for how the LORD used MTS to give me a richer, fuller, understanding of his Lordship and Kingdom. I no longer see the world through the same lens. God has adjusted the focus and given me eyes to see life through a more biblical and gospel centered perspective.
– Michelle A, 30, worker among Muslim women
MTS didn’t only equip me for cross-cultural mission among the unreached. MTS helped me understand that wherever I go, I am first on mission for Jesus. Whatever I do, even if it’s just my job, it can be part of the mission. Right now, I am working and finishing grad-school, yet the teachings of MTS remind me that all of life is sacred, consecrated to God for His purposes. It is exciting to see all God can do! Everyday Christians with this perspective can change the world. Even if you’re not planning on living overseas, MTS can equip you to live a life that leaves a trail of Jesus worshipers wherever you go.
– Hannah R, 23, headed to Indonesia to do Bible translation
Life on mission is hard. It is impossible without being firmly rooted in the Lord. But I also can’t imagine being a missionary without having completed MTS. I don’t think my family would still be on the mission field if it weren’t for the support and training that GFM provide.
– Danielle O, 33, ESL teacher and Muslim outreach
I learned a lot at MTS, but one of the things which stood out to me was learning to work with people who have different personalities and different church backgrounds. My class had many differences, but we united together around the person of Jesus. As someone now living in the 10/40 window, I highly recommend MTS as a tool to equip missionaries in going wherever and to whomever God has called them!
– Ezra H, 28, serving in Tunisia
I have been trying to get back to school for 10 years. MTS allowed me to further my education earning a 2 year masters degree in 5 months while digging deep into God’s Kingdom and Way. I have accomplished my goal of staying in ministry and studying it at the same time. MTS balances knowledge, heart acceptance and practical service in their teaching methods. This creates an application based system that has helped me evaluate my ministry to this point and set clear Kingdom standards for the next 20 years. I believe MTS was a “God send” moment in time for me in my personal development and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a holistic, community driven discipleship paradigm to both study meaningful doctrine and practical spiritual development in the context of missional fulfillment. I can take anything I have learned and shape it to disciple any of the people under my care in ministry. MTS is a huge gift to the Body of Christ!!
– Dale P, 34, Local Next Generation pastor of 300+ students, couples, parents
MTS was great for me as a recent college graduate to come get practical, hands-on training to enter the cross-cultural mission field. MTS has equipped me to understand different cultures and religions and how to share the gospel with people in these contexts, all while growing in my relationship with The Lord. I have learned more about myself, how I fit on a team, and how to practically deal with situations that arise on the mission field. MTS really encompasses the head, heart, and hands that it takes to be an effective cross-cultural laborer for the Kingdom.
– Kimberly P, 26, serving among unreached peoples
After having worked in missions prior to MTS, it was amazing to see all that God still needed to do in me to prepare me to continue to share His Word. Global Frontier Missions was the catalyst God used to shape me and prepare me for His good work. I would recommend this training to anyone that is feeling a tug in their heart to evangelize different people groups across the globe. One of the best parts about the school is the ability to put into practice all that you are learning in the classroom right when you step out the door, with the refugees and beautiful community of Clarkston, Georgia.
– Brittany S, 29, 2012 MTS graduate
When I was studying in MTS and someone in the class would say, “I don’t know what to think about this…I’m really messed up…” The teacher would say, “sounds good, be like the Bereans”. I think that was a good way to learn…look to the Word of God, get messed up and change your mind when you have been doing things the way everyone else does without looking at what God actually said. Let the Word of God change you to be more and more like Jesus.
– Doreen B, 28, currently serving in South Asia
MTS played a vital role in fueling and directing my passion for missions. The training I received there has not only continued to help me in overseas work, but has also made me much more willing and able to share Christ with the nations that surround me in U.S. cities every day.
– Catherine L, 39, healed from life threatening health problems during MTS in 2004
The GFM program was a place for me to grow in greater intimacy with the Father and receive His beating heart for the nations. Through the practical opportunities to immediately apply the teachings in the surrounding community, I left equipped and filled with faith to step out and work full-time among the unreached. “Life-changing experience” doesn’t come near to describing my experience with the Father through GFM’s holistic training!
– Rachel B, 29, currently serving in a Hindu country
I never even knew that there were people in the World who had not been reached with the Gospel. Thank you MTS for opening up my eyes about unreached people groups. And now that I know, how can I not be a part of the Great Commission?
– Mel R, 42, serving among an unreached North African people group
The Missionary Training School at Global Frontier Missions really prepared me for the mission field. The way I do ministry now is totally different to the way I did it before going through the training. You will be stretched and challenged spiritually in ways you may never have thought. I believe every missionary should go through this training prior to hitting the mission field.
– Adrian P, 40, GFM Sydney base director
I think one of my favorite things about MTS is the variety of beliefs and teachings that were presented for each subject, and yet we always went back to, “what does the [B]ible say?”. It really inspired me to make sure I wasn’t believing something just because a pastor taught it, but to make sure it was actually what God said. I love how MTS doesn’t force a particular belief on you, but you have the freedom to listen to multiple sides, discuss with your classmates and teachers, and study the Word of God to find the truth.
– Lynnea S, 21, currently serving in the Philippines
I’m beyond thankful for MTS! I feel like God completely flipped my world upside-down and challenged my western worldview and paradigm. More than anything, I’m thankful for how this training challenged me to go to God’s Word for answers and to seek Him in order to find out what’s really true. I don’t want to mindlessly believe things because people tell me them, but because God’s Word has convinced and convicted me that it’s true, and MTS encouraged the discovery method of learning, which really helped me take more ownership for what I believe about who God is and His heart for the nations.
– Michaela E, 24, pursuing medical missions
Before MTS, I was ready to head to the mission field, but after completing the training school, I realized just how unequipped and unprepared I was. MTS put so many tools in my hands to reach the unreached more effectively, not only from the class time but also from time spent in the community, practicing what we were learning.
– Rachel L, 27, now serving in South Asia
I thought that living in another culture and seeing how things could be applied directly was the strongest part of MTS. Having honest discussions with other Christians from very different backgrounds helped me consider alternate points of view. It made me question why I believed what I believed, and in some cases caused me to change my beliefs.
– Brian B, 36, currently serving in Mexico
GFM rocked my world…well God rocked my world through GFM. I thought I knew about missions, but GFM opened my eyes and my heart to whole new worlds I had been blind to. I was inspired to pray for the 10/40 window and through that, God called me to be the answer. Now I call home the place that God burdened my heart for during MTS…[South Asia]! I’m not sure if I would be here if not for having done MTS. Glory to God for the way that He works everything together!
– Daniel B, 31, serving Hindus in South Asia
MTS helped to cultivate my heart for missions, and gave me practical training (specifically for community missionary living, and living in a third world country/warm climate culture) for mission work that I’ve used both on and off the “overseas mission field”.
– Hannah G, 27, served in an orphanage in Africa
Before coming to MTS I felt totally unprepared to go to the mission field. I had a desire to serve but had no idea what that would look like. The missionary training did more than equip me to serve overseas. It stretched me to go deeper with God and know him more intimately. The classroom studies mixed with time serving in the community stretched me and prepared me for service in any context.
– Travis L, 33, serving among African unreached peoples
MTS was just the beginning of opening me up to a whole new world spiritually; it has changed the course of my life and the things I go after and the decisions I have made since. I knew my time there would be amazing, but I didn’t expect the foundational impact it would have on the rest of my life!
– Sarah S, 29, graduate from 2009 MTS in Oaxaca
MTS taught me things that “I didn’t know I didn’t know.” The people who taught us were so obviously filled with the Holy Spirit, and their passion for unreached people groups was infectious. I had a remarkable experience overall, and I have used the knowledge and skills I gleaned from MTS on subsequent missions.
– Melissa B, 33, studying to be a medical missionary
MTS in Oaxaca taught me so much about cultural differences, and learning to appreciate and value different cultures. I would feel comfortable going to any country because now I know how to learn and grow in my understanding of traditions, religions, and etiquette.
– Linday S, 31, 2009 graduate from MTS Oaxaca
