Richmond is an unassuming city of untapped global potential. The foreign-born population has doubled in the past ten years, resulting in a rich and vibrant diversity of cultures. Many immigrants, international students, asylum seekers, and refugees are from countries that have limited or no access to the gospel. We view their presence as a God-given opportunity to share the love of Jesus with them.

Our world is changing daily.  Expanding global cities and large movements of people require that we adapt mission strategy, especially regarding the millions of people who have yet to hear the gospel in an understandable way. Richmond provides an international training ground for those who want to engage with Muslims, Hindus, and Buddhists in an urban setting while pursuing their next step of obedience in missions.

GFM Richmond has designed its Missionary Training School (MTS) to equip students to enter global cities with a diaspora (movement of peoples) mission strategy. Whether the focus is with unreached peoples in America or overseas, our long-term staff trains students to work in places with high populations of unreached peoples. Throughout the training, students are immersed in a gospel-centered community and participate in one-on-one mentoring.

Along with challenging classroom interaction, MTS students learn to build relationships and share the gospel in a culturally-appropriate way through relevant, hands-on ministry in international contexts.

Staff and students in Richmond are currently involved in a variety of community ministries with foreign-born newcomers:

  • ESL/ELL teaching programs for adults and children
  • English conversation clubs
  • Tutoring school-aged children with homework
