Guilt Innocence, Honor Shame, and Fear Power Worldviews

Worldview varies from one culture to the next and is one of the biggest obstacles in presenting and understanding the Gospel. Cultures tend to be based on guilt/innocence, honor/shame, or fear/power worldviews. By increasing our understanding of each worldview, we will learn the most effective ways to share the Gospel with people from different cultures.

Often, godly believers with good intentions work faithfully to evangelize the people whom they love, and yet they see little or no result. It could be that they are trying to communicate in a "guilt/innocence" manner to a people group that understands through a "fear/power" or "honor/shame" worldview. The words, although spoken with sincerity, may not be understood as they should.

The entirety of God's Word was written to be understood by peoples of every worldview. An example of this is Genesis 3, which includes all three elements of fear, guilt, and shame, after Adam and Eve chose their own way over God's way. Recognizing and knowing how to draw out biblical truths using words that our audience "hears" correctly will likely bring about a genuine response to the gospel message.

Please take a few minutes to get acquainted with this worldview concept by watching the video below.
