Global Frontier Missions: Christian Missions, Training, and Discipleship
Until All Have Heard
The book When Helping Hurts by Steve Corbett and Brian Fikkert has become a common staple in the missions world, and we believe it should be a required reading for Christians that are involved in local and global outreach. The book challenges our definitions of poverty, talks about serving the poor with dignity, not doing for others what they can do for themselves, and how to truly empower people. We took the principles from the book and developed a short video to challenge churches and missions teams to think a little bit more deeply about the methods they are using to reach out and help “the least of these”.
Global Frontier Missions embodies this ministry philosophy whether we are serving refugees in Atlanta, helping in the slums of South Asia, or ministering in red-light districts in Thailand.
With hundreds of verses in the Bible concerning the poor, Christians need to embrace God’s heart and His commands concerning those less fortunate. Over and over, God tells His people to care for orphans, widows, foreigners, the sick, and the marginalized. He wants us to care for people both physically and spiritually.
Unfortunately, a lot of our good intentions may actually be hurting the poor rather than actually helping them. May we thoughtfully and prayerfully think through the ways we are trying to help individuals and communities with their felt needs. May we honor God and those we are serving. May we not only provide temporary relief, but see whole life and community transformation.
We see God calling his people to holistic ministry throughout His word and we want to help you be a part of it. Let us know if we can serve your church in any way as you look to “preach Good News to the poor” fulfilling both the Great Commandment and the Great Commission.
For those that want to go deeper, we highly recommend the small group experience videos for missions teams to go through before their next homeless outreach, Christmas box distribution, food pantry push, or global missions trip.
